Today’s market is probably one of the most volatile and interesting we’ve seen in a long time. For the first time, used vehicles are not suffering from depreciation and are highly sought out. In fact, you’ll see dealerships around the country begging you to trade in or sell your vehicle to them.
Why is that? Due to the national chip shortage in America, we’re seeing less abundance of new models for sale, and more used vehicles are being sold at a like-new price. Willowbrook Ford is here to help our Westmont locals navigate this stressful time.
What Do Chips Have to Do with New Vehicles?
New models tend to need more chips than used vehicles due to advanced technology and safety features. Infotainment systems, heads-up displays, and other modern applications demand more chips than a used vehicle with little or standard features. So, producing one new model that may require three dozen chips or more will be harder to complete than an already manufactured used vehicle that only needs one or two dozen.
COVID-19 and the Ukraine War have significantly impacted our chip shortage, limiting our production rates. Therefore 2020, 2021, and 2023 models have been out of stock, higher-priced, or taking longer to order.
I Need a Car Now. What Should I Do?
One option for our Hinsdale locals is to shop used. However, be prepared to pay a higher price than you normally would for a used vehicle now that they are in high demand. Alternatively, ordering a custom-made car straight through the manufacturer will get top priority if you want a new model.
If you’re in the Willow Springs or Palos Park region and need a new model, we highly encourage you to come to Willowbrook Ford. We’ll help you custom order your new vehicle and keep you updated throughout the process if you can’t find what you’re looking for on our lot. Click Here to learn more about the chip shortage.
